Spain controlled much of the match and created the better chances throughout regulation time, withLamine Yamal, Mikel Oyarzabal,Ferran Torres, Aymeric Laporte and Nico Williams all threatening Argentina’s goal, while goalkeeperEmiliano Martínezkept his side in the game with a series of saves.
Argentina’s task became more difficult late in the second half when midfielderEnzo Fernándezwas sent off, leaving the defending champions to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.
After a goalless 90 minutes, the final went into extra time, where Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute to secure Spain’s victory.
The triumph earned Spain its secondFIFA World Cuptitle, adding to its maiden triumph at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
