Tashkent, July 19 (SANA)Syria won one silver and three bronze medals at the 58thInternational Chemistry Olympiad(IChO 2026), held inUzbekistanfrom July 10 to 19, with participants from 98 countries.

The SyrianCommission for Distinction and Creativitysaid on Sunday that the national team placed 34th overall, marking one of Syria’s strongest performances in the international scientific competition.

Jad Ahmad from Hama won the silver medal, while bronze medals went to Elio Mashreki from Homs, Maha Al-Obaid from Latakia and Mohammad Khalouk Al-Akhras from Homs.

The commission said Ahmad also ranked first among contestants representing the eight participating Arab teams, ahead of competitors from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan.

The International Chemistry Olympiad is an annual competition bringing together secondary school students from around the world to compete in advanced theoretical and practical chemistry.
