DR Congo Ebola cases rise to 2,267, deaths reach 893

Kinshasa, July 19 (SANA)The Democratic Republic of theCongohas recorded 2,267 confirmedEbola casesand 893 deaths since the latest outbreak began two months ago, authorities said on Sunday, underscoring the scale of one of the country’s recurring public health crises.

The Ministry of Communication and Media said in a statement posted on X that the outbreak has so far resulted in 2,267 confirmed infections and 893 fatalities.

TheWorld Health Organizationsaid on May 17 thatEbola outbreaksin the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring Uganda constituted a public health emergency, warning that the virus poses a risk of spreading to other countries and assessing the regional risk as high.

Ebola is a severe viral diseasethat spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people or animals. The illness, which is often fatal, can cause symptoms including high fever, vomiting and internal and external bleeding.
