Presidente Abinader entrega moderna Escuela Básica Minerva Mirabal y amplía el acceso a una educación de calidad para más de 900 estudiantes en Los Cerros de Sabana Perdida
Santo Domingo Norte.– Since this Saturday, more than 900 students from the Los Cerros de Sabana Perdida sector have a new opportunity to learn in modern and safe spaces, after the inauguration of the Minerva Mirabal Basic School by President Luis Abinader, as part of the Government's efforts to continue strengthening public education.
During the event, the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps García, highlighted that each school delivered by the Government represents an investment in the future of the country and reaffirms the commitment to guarantee that no child or adolescent is left out of the classrooms.
The official pointed out that the inauguration of this campus takes place a few weeks before the start of the 2026-2027 school year, scheduled for August 24, so the Ministry of Education works in the interest of all educational centers in the country being prepared to receive students in the best conditions.
De Camps García indicated that the Government's priority is to ensure that each student finds an open, organized school with the necessary conditions to develop a quality teaching-learning process, thanks to the coordinated work between the different departments of the Ministry of Education.
Likewise, he stated that quality education requires the joint commitment of students, teachers, families and communities, considering that schools must become safe spaces where children learn, develop their abilities and build their life projects.
The new educational center has 27 classrooms, of which 24 correspond to the primary level and three to the initial level, in addition to administrative areas, dining room, kitchen, library, guidance room, infirmary, sports field, civic plaza, recreational areas and administrative spaces, designed to offer an adequate environment for the learning and comprehensive development of students.
Investing in education is investing in the country
Representing the student body, Helen Nicol Alcántara expressed that the new school symbolizes much more than a physical infrastructure, since it will be the place where hundreds of children and young people will be able to discover their talents, strengthen their values and build a better future.
The student thanked President Luis Abinader, the Ministry of Education and all the people who made the work possible. Likewise, he highlighted that investing in education means investing in the development of the Dominican Republic and in the opportunities of new generations.
The Minerva Mirabal Basic School was built by the Directorate of School Infrastructure (DIE), under the direction of Roberto Herrera, as part of the educational infrastructure strengthening program promoted by the Government to guarantee safe, modern and adequate spaces for the learning and comprehensive development of students.
The Vice Ministers of Education Alexis Jiménez and Kenia Xiomara Guante participated in the activity; the governor of the Santo Domingo province, Lucrecia Santana Leyba; the mayor of Santo Domingo Norte, Betty Gerónimo; the director of the School Infrastructure Directorate (DIE), Roberto Herrera; representatives of the educational community, teachers, students, parents, as well as community leaders from the sector.

De Camps García indicó que la prioridad del Gobierno es asegurar que cada estudiante encuentre unaescuela abierta, organizaday con las condiciones necesarias para desarrollar un proceso deenseñanza-aprendizaje de calidad, gracias al trabajo coordinado entre las distintas dependencias del Ministerio de Educación. Asimismo, afirmó que una educación de calidad requiere elcompromiso conjunto de estudiantes, docentes, familias y comunidades, al considerar que las escuelas deben convertirse en espacios seguros donde los niños aprendan, desarrollen sus capacidades y construyan sus proyectos de vida. El nuevo centro educativo dispone de27 aulas, de las cuales 24 corresponden al nivel primario y tres al nivel inicial, además de áreas administrativas, comedor, cocina, biblioteca, salón de orientación, enfermería, cancha deportiva, plaza cívica, áreas recreativas y espacios administrativos, diseñados para ofrecer un entorno adecuado para el aprendizaje y el desarrollo integral de los estudiantes. La estudiante agradeció al presidente Luis Abinader, al Ministerio de Educación y a todas las personas que hicieron posible la obra. Asimismo, destacó que invertir en educación significa invertir en el desarrollo de la República Dominicana y en lasoportunidades de las nuevas generaciones. La Escuela Básica Minerva Mirabal fue construida por laDirección de Infraestructura Escolar (DIE), bajo la dirección deRoberto Herrera, como parte del programa defortalecimiento de la infraestructura educativaque impulsa el Gobierno para garantizar espacios seguros, modernos y adecuados para el aprendizaje y el desarrollo integral de los estudiantes.
