GCC Secretary-General condemns Iranian attacks, says they amount to war crimes

Riyadh, July 18 (SANA)Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC) Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed al-Budaiwi condemned on Saturday theIranian attackstargetingBahrain,KuwaitandJordan, as well as civilian infrastructure and facilities, which resulted in injuries to several civilians in Kuwait.

In a statement, al-Budaiwi stated that targeting civilian facilities and infrastructure represents a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

He deemed the attacks to amount to war crimes that require accountability and international prosecution.

The GCC Secretary-General reiterated that the deliberate targeting of civilian facilities constitutes a blatant violation of international norms and conventions and reflects continued attempts to undermine regional security and stability.

Al-Budaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan and voiced support for the measures taken by those countries to safeguard their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Earlier on Saturday, the Kuwaiti military announced that its air defense systems had intercepted Iranian missiles and drones targeting the country. Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy also reported that a power generation and water distillation facility had caught fire after being struck, injuring several firefighters and one worker.

Earlier, the Jordanian Armed Forces announced that their air defense systems had intercepted and shot down 10 Iranian missiles targeting the Kingdom.
