Syria wins bronze at Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship

Astana, July 18 (SANA)Syrian national teamathlete Marwa al-Shalabi claimed the bronze medal in the women’s over-70 kg division at theAsian Jiu-Jitsu ChampionshipinKazakhstan, securing Syria’s first medal of this year’s continental tournament.

Al-Shalabi defeated a number of top competitors from across Asia to finish third following a series of strong performances throughout the competition.

Syrian athlete Dareen al-Marastani placed fourth in the women’s 45 kg category, while Tambi Omar finished fifth in the men’s 77 kg division.

Hazem Ramadan, a member of the Syrian Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the delegation’s administrative manager and coach, said the results reflected the continued progress of Syrian jiu-jitsu in international competitions and underscored the sport’s promising future in the country.

The Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship features leading athletes from across the continent and is a key event on the calendars of both the Asian and International Jiu-Jitsu Federations.
