Kuwait condemns Iranian attacks as Iraq denounces strikes on Erbil, Sulaymaniyah

Kuwait City/Baghdad, July 18 (SANA)Kuwait condemned an Iranian attack on a power generation and water desalination plant on Saturday, saying it reserved the right to defend its territory and critical infrastructure, while Iraqi President Nizar Amidi denounced strikes on Erbil and Sulaymaniyah as violations of Iraq’s sovereignty.

Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry described the repeated attacks on vital facilities as “a systematic pattern of aggression” targeting civilian infrastructure and endangering civilians, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The ministry said Kuwait reserved the right to take all necessary measures to protect its security and strategic facilities in line with its inherent right to self-defense.

In Baghdad, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted President Amidi as saying attacks on Iraqi territory under any pretext were unacceptable and that Iraq would not allow its territory to become a battleground for regional conflicts or the settling of scores.

Earlier on Saturday, Kuwait’s military said its air defenses had intercepted Iranian missiles and drones targeting the country. The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said the attack on the power generation and desalination plant wounded several firefighters and one worker.

Separately, the international coalition in Iraq said it had intercepted and shot down five explosive-laden drones over Erbil province in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. No casualties were reported.F.J./ABD
