Department of Transport update on RTSS payments and late application process
The Department of Transport is pleased to confirm that the first payments under the Road Transporters Support Scheme (RTSS) have been successfully processed and are now issuing to eligible applicants. Following completion of the assessment and payment process, funds have started arriving in applicants' bank accounts.
Applications are assessed in line with the Scheme's published eligibility criteria. Following assessment, applications are either approved or refused based on whether all vehicle and operator eligibility requirements have been met. Once a decision has been finalised, applicants are notified of the outcome and provided with information on how to seek a review of any negative decision.
Payment processing is then initiated for approved applications. Applicants receive a remittance notice from the National Shared Services Office (NSSO) when payment has been processed, and funds arrive in bank accounts shortly afterwards.
As with any new scheme, the Department has tested and refined assessment and payment processes as applications move through the system. This has enabled a number of operational issues to be identified and resolved, ensuring that payments can be processed efficiently and accurately
Following the successful processing of the initial payments, the Department expects approvals and payments to increase significantly in the coming weeks. Additional applications will be approved in regular batches commencing next week, with payment runs scheduled on an ongoing basis as assessments are completed.
The Department appreciates the patience of applicants while these processes are being established and scaled up. Ensuring that public funds are paid accurately and in accordance with the Scheme's terms and conditions remains a key priority.
We remind potential applicants that a process has been established to allow requests for permission to submit a late application in exceptional circumstances.
Requests will be accepted from 12 noon on Monday, 20 July 2026, until 12 noon on Friday, 25 July 2026.
Permission to submit a late application will only be considered where an applicant can demonstrate that an unforeseen event or circumstance, outside their reasonable control, materially prevented them from applying during the original application period. Supporting documentary evidence will be required.
Full details of the late application process, including the relevant terms and conditions, are available fromRoad Transporters Support Scheme.
