La demanda eléctrica alcanzó nuevo histórico de 4,166.52 megavatios
Santo Domingo.-The national electrical system registered a new historical record of maximum instantaneous demand on the night of Thursday, July 16, 2026, reaching 4,166.52 megawatts (MW) at 9:58 p.m., reported the Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos.
The official highlighted that this new maximum reflects the sustained growth of electricity consumption in the country, driven by the dynamism of economic activity, the increase in household demand and the high temperatures typical of the season.
The record, corresponding to 9:58 p.m. on July 16, surpasses the previous mark and constitutes a new milestone for the National Interconnected Electricity System (SENI). It also demonstrates the need to continue strengthening the generation, transmission and distribution capacity to respond to the increase in consumption.
This new maximum occurs less than a month after the country established another demand record, when on June 18 the SENI reached 4,077.34 MW and surpassed the 4,000 megawatt barrier for the first time.
Energy demand is expected to continue at an increasing rate, due to high temperatures during this time of year.
Minister Joel Santos reiterated that the Government continues to execute strategic projects aimed at guaranteeing the country's energy security and ensuring a reliable and efficient supply in the face of sustained growth in electricity demand.
