Also, emphasized the importance of strengthening Sri Lanka's vocational education sector in parallel with the ongoing education reforms and stated that the necessary allocations for this purpose would be provided through the 2027 Budget. Attention was also given to proposals for investment in the education sector for the 2027-2031 period, including the proposed Digital Transformation Project. The discussion further focused on welfare programs for schoolchildren. I stressed that these programs should be prioritized appropriately and instructed officials to prepare and submit proposals outlining funding needs, noting that the President's Fund remains committed to supporting scholarship programs. The meeting also discussed the need to increase the allowances introduced last year for children with disabilities, as well as the allowances provided to students of the National Colleges of Education. Attention was also directed towards improving infrastructure in the higher education sector, including the construction of student hostels to enhance student welfare. In addition, noted that the shortages of staff, as well as salary and allowance issues affecting the education sector, are common challenges shared across all sectors. I instructed that these matters be addressed through comprehensive discussions with a view to identifying sustainable solutions.
