The prison wardens, jailers and other officials joined a meeting this afternoon (17) at the President's Office. It was mentioned here that it was the first time that the prison officers had the opportunity to discuss their problems directly with a president, and I discussed the problems that have arisen in the prison system and the urgent steps to be taken to solve them, the measures that should be taken to prevent the occurrence of the incident in the Negombo prison, and the welfare of the prison officers. Today (17) afternoon, I attended the meeting with prison guards and jailers. It was pointed out that this was the first opportunity for the prison officers to discuss their problems directly with a President, and I discussed the problems that have arisen in the prison structure and the measures to solve them quickly, the measures to be taken to prevent incidents like the one that happened in Negombo prison from happening again, and the welfare activities of the prison officers.

බන්ධනාගාර නියාමකවරු, ජේලර්වරු ඇතුළු නිලධාරීන් සමඟ හමුවකට අද (17) පස්වරුවේ ජනාධිපති කාර්යාලයේදී එක්වීමි. තම ගැටලු ජනාධිපතිවරයෙක් සමඟ සෘජුව සාකච්ඡා කිරීමට බන්ධනාගාර නිලධාරීන්ට අවස්ථාව හිමි වූයේ ප්රථම වරට බව මෙහිදී සඳහන් කෙරුණු අතර, මේ වන විට බන්ධනාගාර පද්ධතියේ මතුව ඇති ගැටලු සහ ඒවා විසඳා ගැනීමට ගත යුතු කඩිනම් පියවර පිළිබඳවත්, මීගමුව බන්ධනාගාරය තුළ සිදු වූ සිදුවීම වැනි දේ යළි සිදු නොවීමට ගත යුතු පියවර පිළිබඳවත්, බන්ධනාගාර නිලධාරීන්ගේ සුබසාධන කටයුතු පිළිබඳවත් මෙහිදී සාකච්ඡා කළෙමි. இன்று (17) பிற்பகல் சிறைக் காவலர்கள், ஜெயிலர்கள் உள்ளிட்ட அதிகாரிகளுடனான சந்திப்பில் கலந்துகொண்டேன். சிறைச்சாலை அதிகாரிகளுக்கு ஜனாதிபதி ஒருவருடன் நேரடியாகத் தமது பிரச்சினைகள் குறித்துக் கலந்துரையாடுவதற்கு கிடைத்த முதலாவது சந்தர்ப்பம் இதுவென இதன்போது சுட்டிக்காட்டப்பட்டதுடன், தற்போது சிறைச்சாலை கட்டமைப்பில் எழுந்துள்ள பிரச்சினைகள் மற்றும் அவற்றுக்கு விரைவாகத் தீர்வுகாண்பதற்கான நடவடிக்கைகள் குறித்தும், நீர்கொழும்பு சிறைச்சாலையில் இடம்பெற்றது போன்ற சம்பவங்கள் மீண்டும் ஏற்படாதிருப்பதற்கு எடுக்க வேண்டிய நடவடிக்கைகள் குறித்தும், சிறைச்சாலை அதிகாரிகளின் நலன்புரிச் செயற்பாடுகள் குறித்தும் இங்கு கலந்துரையாடினேன்.
