EU, Lebanon strengthen cooperation in transport, energy, environment and water sectors

Brussels, July 17 (SANA)The European Union and Lebanon reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in transport, energy, environment and water sectors during the fourth meeting of the subcommittee, held in Brussels under the EU-Lebanon Association Agreement.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), theEuropean Unionsaid the meeting reviewed developments in transport policy and discussed upgrades to Lebanon’s aviation, maritime and land transport infrastructure, stressing the need for reforms to improve efficiency and safety.

The two sides also discussed support for Lebanon’s energy sector, including expanding renewable energy production and regional interconnection, as well as cooperation on environmental protection, waste management and biodiversity conservation.

In the water sector, participants reviewed the implementation ofLebanon‘s recovery plan, sustainable water resource management and the impact of climate-related challenges across multiple sectors.

On June 4, the European Union approved a new €100 million assistance package for the Lebanese Armed Forces as part of efforts to strengthen the military’s capabilities and support stability in Lebanon.
