Gobierno y Codia sellan alianza por la resiliencia climática y el desarrollo sostenible
Santo Domingo.–The Dominican Government, through the National Council for Climate Change and Carbon Market (CNCCMC), signed an inter-institutional collaboration and cooperation agreement with the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (Codia), with the purpose of strengthening the coordination between both institutions, developing initiatives aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change, strengthening territorial resilience and promoting sustainable development.
During the signing of the agreement, the executive vice president of the CNCCMC, Max Puig, highlighted that this alliance represents a firm step to strengthen the country's capacity to face the challenges of climate change. "Climate action requires the commitment and coordination of all sectors. "With this agreement we incorporate the knowledge and technical experience of Codia to promote more solid public policies, promote resilient infrastructure and move towards sustainable development that responds to the present and future needs of the Dominican Republic," he expressed.
For his part, the president of the National Board of Directors of Codia, Enrique Rosario García, stated that this cooperation reaffirms the union's commitment to the development of the country and the protection of the territory. "Professionals in engineering, architecture and surveying play a fundamental role in building more resilient communities. This alliance with the CNCCMC will allow us to put our technical capabilities at the service of the country, strengthen the specialized training of our members and contribute to the implementation of innovative solutions against the effects of climate change," he stated.
Among the most relevant goals contemplated for the next three years are the training and certification of at least 2,500 registered professionals, the integration of 50 Codia meteorological stations to the CNCCMC information systems, the execution of 15 pilot projects on resilient infrastructure and territorial planning, the publication of the second edition of the National Atlas of Climate Change, the creation of a National Resilient Infrastructure Observatory and the management of projects with financing international to strengthen climate action in the country.
The initiative will also allow the integration of geospatial information, Earth observation technologies, meteorological data and territorial analysis tools to improve development planning, strengthen risk management and support evidence-based decision making in the face of the effects of climate change.
Likewise, it will promote the continuous training of engineers, architects, surveyors and other professionals in areas linked to climate resilience, geomatics, risk management and carbon markets.
The agreement also contemplates the joint formulation of projects to access international climate financing funds and promote applied research, the exchange of knowledge and technological innovation, consolidating a cooperation platform between both institutions for the benefit of national development.

Entre las metas más relevantes contempladas para lospróximos tres añosdestacan lacapacitación y certificación de al menos 2,500 profesionales colegiados, la integración de50 estaciones meteorológicasdel Codia a los sistemas de información del CNCCMC, la ejecución de15 proyectos pilotosobre infraestructura resiliente y planificación territorial, la publicación de lasegunda edición del Atlas Nacional del Cambio Climático, la creación de unObservatorio Nacional de Infraestructura Resilientey la gestión deproyectos con financiamiento internacionalpara fortalecer la acción climática en el país. La iniciativa permitirá además integrarinformación geoespacial, tecnologías deobservación de la Tierra,datos meteorológicos y herramientas de análisis territorialpara mejorar la planificación del desarrollo, fortalecer la gestión del riesgo y apoyar la toma de decisiones basadas en evidencia frente a los efectos del cambio climático. Asimismo, promoverá laformación continuade ingenieros, arquitectos, agrimensores y otros profesionales en áreas vinculadas a laresiliencia climática, la geomática, la gestión del riesgo y los mercados de carbono. El convenio también contempla laformulación conjunta de proyectospara acceder a fondos internacionales definanciamiento climáticoy fomentar lainvestigación aplicada, el intercambio de conocimientos y lainnovación tecnológica, consolidando una plataforma de cooperación entre ambas instituciones en beneficio del desarrollo nacional.
