ТуризмUzbekistan is emerging as one of the most appealing tourist destinations in Central Asia09:00 / 17.07.2026
Originally known mainly as a site for pilgrimage, cultural, and historical tourism, the country is now also attracting visitors for gastronomic, ecotourism, medical, and business purposes. According to the National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, between January and June, 6,565,410 international tourists visited, marking a 24.9% increase of 1.3 million visitors compared to the same period last year. Most tourists came from neighboring countries: 1.87 million from Kyrgyzstan, 1.55 million from Kazakhstan, and 1.47 million from Tajikistan. These numbers demonstrate the expansion of regional tourism, improved cross-border collaborations, and better transport links.
The influx of 585,500 tourists from Russia, 238,900 from Afghanistan, and 223,400 from China demonstrates Uzbekistan’s increasing attraction in global markets.
Analysts attribute the rise in tourist arrivals to several key factors: the expansion of visa-free access, the introduction of new air routes, improvements in hotel infrastructure, active promotion at international exhibitions, and increasing interest in Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva. Uzbekistan draws visitors not only with its historic and architectural landmarks but also with modern tourism services, local cuisine, festivals, and ecotourism spots. These elements enhance the country’s reputation as one of Central Asia’s most competitive tourism destinations.
With new international flights, joint tourism routes, and major international events scheduled for the second half of the year, the number of foreign tourists visiting Uzbekistan is anticipated to increase further by year-end.
