Jordan says it intercepted Iranian missiles, urges U.S.-Iran ceasefire and diplomacy

Amman, July 17 (SANA)Jordan said on Friday that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed threeIranian missilesthat entered its airspace and targeted the kingdom, as Foreign MinisterAyman Safadicalled for adherence to a U.S.-Iran ceasefire and a diplomatic solution to regional tensions.A military source at the Jordanian Armed Forces’ General Command said the missiles were dealt with according to approved defensive measures aimed at protecting Jordan’s sovereignty, securing its airspace and safeguarding citizens.The source said the interception caused no casualties or material damage, adding that the armed forces were continuing to monitor Jordanian airspace with a high level of readiness and urging citizens to rely on official sources for information and avoid spreading unverified reports.Meanwhile, Safadi said Jordan and Arab countries were not parties to the conflict and had consistently sought good relations with Iran, but stressed that regional tensions must be addressed through respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.Speaking during a dialogue session on the sidelines of the Aspen Security Forum in the United States, Safadi saidIranian attacks on Jordanand Gulf Arab countries were condemned and had no justification.He rejected claims that U.S. military bases exist in Jordan, saying American forces are present under a defense cooperation agreement that respects Jordanian sovereignty and supports joint counterterrorism efforts.
