Damascus, July 16 (SANA)– Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Yusr Barnieh met with a technical delegation from Jordan’s Ministry of Finance andCentral Bankto discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of sovereign instruments ( sukuk)  during the delegation’s visit to Damascus this week.

According to Syria’s Finance Ministry, the visit is part of a technical support program aimed at assisting Syria in preparing its firstsovereign instrumentsissuance.

The ministry said the meeting focused on Jordan’s experience in issuing sovereign sukuk and explored opportunities for bilateral cooperation in line with Syria’s efforts to develop its government securities market and gradually expand sovereign sukuk issuance.

Earlier this month, Barnieh met with the ministry’s Government Securities and Sovereign Sukuk Committee to review a draft strategic plan for establishing a framework and roadmap for issuing government securities, including treasury bills, treasury bonds and sovereign sukuk.
