Jordan intercepts Iranian missiles as Kuwait counters drone attacks
Amman/Kuwait City, July 16 (SANA)Jordan and Kuwait said their air defense systems interceptedIranian missiles and droneson Thursday as regional tensions continued to escalate amid the ongoingU.S.-Iran conflict.Jordan’s armed forcessaid air defense units intercepted and destroyed eight Iranian missiles targeting the kingdom before dawn.A military source quoted by the Jordan News Agency (Petra) said the interceptions were carried out in accordance with established defensive procedures to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, protect its airspace and ensure civilian safety.The source said no casualties or material damage were reported. Royal Engineers units secured missile debris that fell at several locations in line with established technical and security procedures.The military urged the public to rely on official sources for information and avoid circulating rumors or unverified reports.The announcement came a day after Jordan said it had intercepted and destroyed three Iranian missiles.Meanwhile,Kuwait’s Ministry of Defensesaid its air defense systems were responding to hostile drone attacks as part of efforts to counter continuing Iranian attacks on countries in the region.In a statement posted on X, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said explosions heard in parts of the country were caused by air defense operations to intercept and neutralize hostile aerial targets.The military urged citizens and residents to follow safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.On Wednesday, Kuwait said its air defense systems had intercepted 25 hostile aerial targets, including drones and missiles.The latest escalation comes amid renewed confrontation betweenthe United States and Iran. U.S. forces have carried out multiple waves of strikes onIranian military targetsand reimposed a blockade on Iranian ports, while Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military installations across Gulf states.
