Director del Inapa inicia obras del alcantarillado sanitario de Boca Chica
Boca Chica.- The executive director of the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewage (Inapa), Wellington Arnaud, started the construction work of the Boca Chica sanitary sewer, a strategic work that will improve the sanitation conditions of the municipality, protect the coastal coast and contribute to the sustainable development of one of the main tourist areas of the country.
The intervention is part of the Universal Sanitation Program for Coastal and Tourist Cities, considered the largest sanitation project currently being carried out in the Dominican Republic and in the region.
This initiative also includes works in the provinces of San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Higüey and Verón-Punta Cana, with a direct impact on more than one million people.
In Boca Chica, the project will benefit around 220,000 inhabitants of this municipality, Andrés and La Caleta, through the expansion and modernization of the infrastructure for the collection, conduction and treatment of wastewater, which will improve the coverage and quality of sanitation services.
The work includes the installation of 250 kilometers of pipes, replacement of existing networks, the construction of eight pumping stations, delivery lines, master collectors, a treatment plant and an underwater outfall.
These infrastructures will protect public health, preserve the quality of aquatic ecosystems and guarantee compliance with national and international regulations on the management and disposal of wastewater.
During the event, Arnaud highlighted the importance of the initiative for the development of Boca Chica and the well-being of its inhabitants. "The sanitation of Boca Chica is key to improving the health and well-being of our people, because without sanitation it is not possible to achieve true development," he expressed.
Likewise, he pointed out that the execution of this work will contribute to improving the living conditions of the population, will strengthen tourism activity and will significantly reduce the risks of environmental pollution in the coastal area. The project will be carried out jointly by Inapay and the Boca Chica Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Coraabo), with the technical and financial support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and additional resources provided by Spain and South Korea.
The student Lía Camila Fernández thanked the start of the work, since it guarantees health and quality of life.
In the activity, Arnaud swore in the oversight commission made up of deputies, councilors, the Boca Chica Tourism Cluster, among other sectors, which will be in charge of supervising and guaranteeing the proper execution of the project.

La obra contempla la instalación de 250 kilómetros de tuberías, sustitución de las redes existentes, la construcción de ocho estaciones de bombeo, líneas de impulsión, colectores maestros, planta de tratamiento y un emisario submarino. Estas infraestructuras permitirán proteger lasalud pública, conservar lacalidad de los ecosistemas acuáticosy garantizar el cumplimiento de lasnormativas nacionales e internacionalessobre el manejo y disposición deaguas residuales. Durante el acto, Arnaud destacó la importancia de la iniciativa para el desarrollo de Boca Chica y elbienestar de sus habitantes."El saneamiento de Boca Chica es clave para mejorar la salud y el bienestar de nuestra gente, porque sin saneamiento no es posible lograr un verdadero desarrollo",expresó. Asimismo, señaló que la ejecución de esta obra contribuirá a mejorar lascondiciones de vidade la población, fortalecerá laactividad turísticay reducirá significativamente losriesgos de contaminación ambientalen la zona costera. El proyecto se realizará de manera conjunta por elInapay la Corporación de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Boca Chica(Coraabo), con el respaldo técnico y financiero del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo(BID)y recursos adicionales aportados por parte deEspaña y Corea del Sur. La estudianteLía Camila Fernándezagradeció el inicio de la obra, ya que viene a garantizarsalud y calidad de vida. En la actividad, Arnaud juramentó lacomisión de veeduríaintegrada por diputados, regidores, el Clùster Turístico de Boca Chica, entre otros sectores, la cual se encargará de supervisar y garantizar laejecución adecuada del proyecto.
