Chamber of Deputies approves subsidies to reduce household gas and electricity prices from 1 August 2026Publication date14.07.2026On 9 and 14 July 2026, the Chamber of Deputies approved subsidies to reduce household gas and electricity prices from 1 August 2026.
On 9 and 14 July 2026, the Chamber of Deputies approved subsidies to reduce household gas and electricity prices from 1 August 2026. These measures were adopted as part of theResilienzpak2026, which resulted from the meetings of the Tripartite Coordination Committee held on 12 May and on 2, 3 and 4 June 2026.
The Minister of the Economy, SME, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, commented: "These two subsidies – on electricity and gas prices – provide immediate support to households. They strengthen citizens' purchasing power and help contain inflation at a time of high volatility on international energy markets. Through these measures, the government is protecting households, stabilising energy costs and supporting the transition to a more resilient energy system."
To strengthen households' purchasing power, curb inflation amid high volatility on international energy markets and at the same time accelerate the energy transition, the government has introduced an electricity price subsidy of EUR 0.04 (VAT included) per kWh. The measure will be applied automatically to all residential customers with an annual electricity consumption of less than 25,000 kWh, from 1 August to 31 December 2026.
This subsidy is in addition to the existing support measures to reduce electricity prices, namely the subsidy on network charges and the State's financing of the compensation mechanism for 2026, 2027 and 2028.
To strengthen households' purchasing power and curb inflation amid high volatility on international energy markets, the government has introduced a financial compensation of EUR 0.15 (VAT included) per cubic metre of gas. The measure will be applied automatically to all residential customers from 1 August to 31 December 2026.
These subsidies are in addition to the existing measures reducing the price of heating oil and agricultural diesel by EUR 0.15 (VAT included) per litre, and the price of petrol and diesel by EUR 0.05 (VAT included) per litre.
