Advance preparation to reduce impacts
At the end of the meeting, the minister of the National Emergency Secretariat, Colonel Arsenio Zárate, explained that, according to reports from the World Meteorological Organization and the Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology, the phenomenon could occur from the end of August and extend until the first months of next year. He added that the projections indicate a phenomenon of strong intensity, which is why the Government has been strengthening its response capacity through preventive actions.
Likewise, he reported that a binational drill between Paraguay and Brazil and a national drill had already been carried out, with the participation of the Armed Forces of the Nation, the National Police, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, the Paraguayan Red Cross, the Volunteer Firefighters, the Ministry of Children and Adolescents, the Ministry of Women, the Ministry of Education and Sciences and the Paraguayan Indigenous Institute (INDI), among other institutions, with the objective of strengthening coordination before the phenomenon enters.
Prevention and coordinated work
The Minister of the Interior, Enrique Riera, highlighted that the actions will be focused on prevention and citizen awareness, through the cleaning of water channels, the planning of evacuations, the organization of support networks for families that must move and the strengthening of early warning systems. He also noted that the National Police will accompany the humanitarian, security and logistical support tasks in the areas that are eventually affected, in coordination with the other institutions of the State.
For his part, the Minister of National Defense, Óscar González, reported that the Nation's Armed Forces are already preparing their land, river, air and logistical means to assist the population in the event of possible emergencies. He also noted that the work of clearing streams and water channels will continue, as part of the preventive actions promoted to reduce the risk of flooding.
In turn, the Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Rolando De Barros Barreto, stressed that the Government has already begun coordination tasks to reduce the impacts of the phenomenon and highlighted that the collaboration of the media will be essential to strengthen prevention and environmental education actions.

Prevención y trabajo coordinado El ministro del Interior,Enrique Riera, destacó que las acciones estarán centradas en laprevención y la concientización ciudadana, mediante lalimpieza de cauces hídricos, la planificación de evacuaciones, la organización de redes de apoyo para las familias que deban trasladarse y el fortalecimiento de los sistemas de alerta temprana.Asimismo, señaló que laPolicía Nacionalacompañará las tareas humanitarias, de seguridad y de apoyo logístico en las zonas que eventualmente resulten afectadas, en coordinación con las demás instituciones del Estado. Por su parte, el ministro de Defensa Nacional,Óscar González,informó que las Fuerzas Armadas de la Nación ya preparan susmedios terrestres, fluviales, aéreos y logísticos para asistir a la población ante eventuales emergencias.Asimismo, señaló que continuarán los trabajos de descolmatación de arroyos y cauces de agua, como parte de las acciones preventivas impulsadas para reducir el riesgo de inundaciones. A su vez, el ministro del Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible,Rolando De Barros Barreto, remarcó queel Gobierno ya inició las tareas de coordinación para reducir los impactos del fenómenoy resaltó que la colaboración de los medios de comunicación será fundamental para fortalecer las acciones de prevención y educación ambiental.
