During the meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of National Defense, General. (SR) Óscar González, the main cooperation programs between Paraguay and Brazil were reviewed and it was agreed to deepen joint work to face shared challenges, such as transnational organized crime and terrorism, through increasingly closer coordination between both nations.

Cooperation to confront common threats

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of National Defense explained that the conversation between President Peña and his Brazilian counterpart made it possible to ratify the will of both governments to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, highlighting that Paraguay and Brazil share challenges that require coordinated responses.

In that sense, he pointed out that both countries will maintain and intensify the existing cooperation mechanisms between their defense institutions, based on a relationship of trust and joint work built over years.

A relationship based on trust and friendship

For his part, the Minister of Defense of Brazil, José Múcio Monteiro, highlighted the historical relationship between both countries and stated that Brazil considers Paraguay a strategic partner in defense matters.

Likewise, he expressed the will to continue expanding joint actions between the Armed Forces of both countries and maintained that any initiative developed in this area must translate into reciprocal benefits for Paraguay and Brazil.

The Brazilian minister also conveyed to President Santiago Peña the greetings of the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and thanked him for the hospitality received during his visit to Paraguay.
