PM Spajić in Brussels today as Montenegro closes Chapters 8 and 29
Prime MinisterMilojko Spajićis leading the delegation that will participate today, 14 July, in the EU-Montenegro Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels, where negotiating Chapter 8 – Competition Policy and Chapter 29 – Customs Union will be provisionally closed.
By closing these two negotiating chapters, which fall under Clusters 2 and 3, Montenegro confirms that it has achieved the necessary level of alignment with the European Union acquis in the areas of competition policy and the customs union. This will bring the total number of closed negotiating chapters to 18, representing further confirmation of the continuity of results achieved in the accession process.
The holding of this Conference represents another important step in the final phase of negotiations, confirming Montenegro’s commitment to implementing comprehensive reforms and the European Union’s confidence in the progress achieved.
Following the Intergovernmental Conference, Prime Minister Spajić, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Irish Minister of State for European Affairs Thomas Byrne will hold a press conference at 16:00. The statements can be followed via:https://video.consilium.europa.eu/home/en.
