Tánaiste to present Ireland’s Presidency priorities to the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs
Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris will travel to Brussels today to meet with the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs(ECON).
The Tánaiste will outline the Irish Presidency’s thematic priorities of competitiveness, security, and values and will focus on the specific economic and financial priorities that Ireland will progress over the next six months. These include the commitments under the ‘One Europe, One Market’ Roadmap – a shared plan by the European Council, Parliament and Commission to boost growth and competitiveness by making it easier for businesses to operate across Europe.
This is an important opportunity to hear the views of Members of the European Parliament on the Irish Presidency’s work programme, exchange perspectives on key economic and financial priorities and build a shared understanding of the work needed to strengthen the EU’s competitiveness and resilience.
The Tánaiste will also meet bilaterally with the Chair of the ECON Committee, Aurore Lalucq, to continue their ongoing engagement on the progress of negotiations on key legislative files.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, the Tánaiste said:
“I am very much looking forward to engaging with the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and having this opportunity to exchange views on Ireland’s Presidency priorities. As I outlined at our ECOFIN meeting last week, we have set out ambitious goals with a clear path to achieving them over the next six months.
“The European Parliament is a critical partner for this work, and I look forward to substantive and cooperative engagement with MEPs as we move forward on our shared objectives. In this context the ‘One Europe, One Market’ Roadmap is important as a shared understanding between Council, Parliament and Commission on priority legislation to help enhance EU competitiveness.
