Presidente Abinader y primera dama participan en la celebración de la Fiesta Nacional de Francia
Santo Domingo.–President Luis Abinader, accompanied by the first lady Raquel Arbaje, participated this Tuesday in the celebration of the National Holiday of France, also known as Bastille Day, a date that, every July 14, commemorates the assault on the Bastille prison in 1789, which marked the beginning of the French Revolution and the end of the absolute monarchy.
The president and the first lady were received by the French ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Sonia Barbry, and, after the official photographs, they held a brief private meeting in which the vice minister of Bilateral Foreign Policy, Francisco Caraballo, and the vice minister for Consular and Immigration Affairs, Opinio Antonio Díaz, also participated.
During her speech, Ambassador Barbry highlighted the deep friendship that unites France and the Dominican Republic, a relationship based on shared values such as freedom, equality, fraternity, the defense of international law, the sovereignty of States and dialogue between nations.
Likewise, he highlighted the presence of more than 6,000 Dominicans residing in France and recalled that President Abinader's recent official visit to Paris made it possible to strengthen trust between both Governments and reaffirm the will to continue working together.
Barbry also highlighted that France has for more than two decades financed strategic projects that positively impact the quality of life of millions of Dominicans. He indicated that, through the French Development Agency (AFD), more than USD 1.5 billion have been mobilized for urban transportation, drinking water, sanitation, energy and territorial development initiatives, and with plans to sign a new bilateral cooperation roadmap.
In addition, he valued the close collaboration in the fight against drug trafficking, highlighting the joint work with the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), and announced the construction of a Regional Training Academy against Drug Trafficking, which will strengthen the training of specialists in the region.
The ambassador also highlighted the cultural, scientific and educational cooperation between both nations, which includes the training of French teachers, scientific research projects, support for the arts and the upcoming signing of a new intergovernmental agreement on educational and cultural cooperation.
Representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez, the Vice Minister of Bilateral Foreign Policy, Francisco Caraballo, stated that France and the Dominican Republic continue to consolidate a relationship based on trust, mutual respect and a shared vision of the future.
He pointed out that, in recent years, the bilateral bond has been strengthened through political dialogue that has managed to translate into an increasingly broad and substantive cooperation agenda, aimed at facing common challenges in areas such as development, sustainability, security, the fight against drug trafficking and regional stability.
Likewise, he expressed that both countries work together for a more solid and humane future, promoting projects that generate well-being for their people and reflect a shared will to continue strengthening the strategic consensual relationship, mutual respect and vocation for the future.
The celebration was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, businessmen and special guests.

Indicó que, a través de laAgencia Francesa de Desarrollo(AFD), se han movilizado más deUSD 1,500 millonespara iniciativas de transporte urbano, agua potable, saneamiento, energía y desarrollo territorial, y con proyecciones de firmar una nueva hoja de ruta decooperación bilateral. Además, valoró la estrecha colaboración en lalucha contra el narcotráfico,resaltando los trabajos conjuntos con laDirección Nacional de Control de Drogas(DNCD), y anunció la construcción de unaAcademia Regional de Capacitación contra el Narcotráfico,que fortalecerá la formación de especialistas de la región. La embajadora también resaltó la cooperacióncultural, científica y educativaentre ambas naciones, que incluye la formación de profesores de francés, proyectos de investigación científica, apoyo a las artes y la próxima firma de unnuevo acuerdo intergubernamentalde cooperación educativa y cultural. En representación del ministro de Relaciones Exteriores,Roberto Álvarez, el viceministro de Política Exterior Bilateral,Francisco Caraballo, afirmó que Francia y la República Dominicana continúan consolidando una relación basada en laconfianza, el respeto mutuo y una visión compartidade futuro. Señaló que, en los últimos años, el vínculo bilateral se ha fortalecido mediante undiálogo políticoque ha logrado traducirse en una agenda de cooperación cada vez másamplia y sustantiva, orientada a enfrentar desafíos comunes en áreas como el desarrollo, la sostenibilidad, la seguridad, la lucha contra el narcotráfico y la estabilidad regional.
