Ministro Luis Miguel De Camps recibe antorcha de los XXV Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe Santo Domingo 2026
Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, received this Tuesday the torch of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, during an event in which he highlighted that this symbol represents the values that Dominican education promotes and reaffirms the country's commitment to holding the regional sports event.
The torch was received by the minister, along with the director of the National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi), Alberto Rodríguez; the director of Education Regional 15, Eddy Chávez; the teacher Ruthdelania Valdez, and the student María Victoria Javiel.
"We receive this torch today with pride because it represents much more than the beginning of the path towards the Games. It represents the trust placed in the Dominican Republic. There is something especially significant about this flame reaching the Ministry of Education today," said De Camps.
The minister stated that the torch has been conceived as the flame of values, and those values are part of the school's deepest mission. "Discipline, respect, honesty, perseverance, teamwork and fair play are not only principles of sport; they are principles that we need to build a better society," he added in that sense.
"That is why we believe in an education that creates good students, but also good citizens. An education that teaches knowledge, but at the same time strengthens character, the sense of responsibility, respect for others and commitment to the common good," said De Camps.
Representing the 100 Agents of the Ministry of Education, student José Antonio Díaz Morele expressed that they receive the “Flame of Values” with pride and emotion, considering that it symbolizes hope, unity, respect, discipline and excellence.
"As Agents at 100, we believe that sport educates, inspires and transforms. It teaches us that true triumph is not only achieved by crossing a finish line, but by acting with honesty, respect, teamwork and perseverance. These are the same values that we promote every day to build a responsible and committed citizenry," he stated.
Likewise, he highlighted that it is an honor for the Dominican Republic to host these games, a historic event that will bring together more than 6,000 athletes from 37 countries and that, he said, will project to the world the organizational capacity, talent and hospitality of the Dominican people.
The fire was lit on April 11 of this year in the archaeological zone of Teotihuacán, Mexico, a place chosen for its historical and cultural value. He was later transferred to the Dominican Republic, where on May 6 the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, gave the official flag for the start of the Wiche García Saleta Route: The Flame of Values.
The journey of the flame, led by the official mascot of the Games Colí, will culminate on July 24, 2026, during the opening ceremony of the Games in Santo Domingo, when the last reliever will light the official cauldron.

Una educación que enseñe conocimientos, pero que al mismo tiempo fortalezca el carácter, el sentido de responsabilidad, el respeto por los demás y el compromiso con el bien común”,aseguró De Camps. Asimismo, destacó que constituyeun honor para la República Dominicanaser sede de estos juegos, un acontecimiento histórico que reunirá amás de 6,000 atletas de 37 paísesy que, según dijo, proyectará al mundo la capacidad organizativa, el talento y la hospitalidad del pueblo dominicano. El fuego fue encendido el 11 de abril de este año en la zona arqueológica deTeotihuacán, México, lugar escogido por su valor histórico y cultural. Posteriormente fue trasladado a la República Dominicana, donde el 6 de mayo elpresidente de la República, Luis Abinader,dio el banderazo oficial para el inicio de laRuta Wiche García Saleta: La Llama de los Valores. El recorrido de la llama, encabezado por la mascota oficial de los juegosColí, culminará el24 de julio de 2026,durante la ceremonia inaugural de los Juegos en Santo Domingo, cuando el último relevista encenderá el pebetero oficial.
