Within the framework of the preventive measures promoted by the Government to face the frontal system that will affect the central-southern area of the country, the President of the Republic, José Antonio Kast, visited this Tuesday the Quebrada de Ramón, in the commune of La Reina, to supervise on the ground the mitigation works that seek to reduce the risk of overflows and floods. The President was accompanied by the bi-minister of Transport, Telecommunications and Public Works, Louis de Grange, and the director of the National Service for Prevention and Disaster Response (SENAPRED), Alicia Cebrián, who reviewed the progress of the work carried out in one of the critical points of the Metropolitan Region during the winter season. The work began on June 25 and considers an investment of more than $43 million, directly benefiting about 20 thousand people. The works include the cleaning and removal of sediment from the seven decanters located inside the Padre Hurtado Park, in a section of 605 linear meters between the Emos Bridge and the Florencio Barrios Bridge. These interventions will restore the retention capacity of the clarifiers and ensure the free flow of water, significantly reducing the risk of overflows. Likewise, the contract incorporates the permanent availability of an excavator in the sewer sector of Prince of Wales Avenue, which can be activated immediately in the event of possible meteorological emergencies. During the visit, President Kast highlighted that the Government has privileged anticipation as the central axis of its strategy to face the winter, strengthening coordination between the different State agencies and deploying resources before emergencies occur. These actions are part of the Winter 2026 Plan of the Ministry of Public Works, which contemplates a total investment of US$468 million for conservation works, cleaning of channels and sewers, snow clearance, infrastructure monitoring and response to climate events. In turn, the President stressed the importance of individual responsibility for the days to come: "Nothing is more important than self-care. In this we have to reiterate to all people that, as the director of Senapred, do not enter mountain areas where your physical integrity could be at risk, do not go near the coastline if there are tidal waves announced, collaborate with us with the cleaning of any water course that may be close to your home, see who is today in a condition of loneliness, make sure that even those people have the basic kit prepared. "The plan considers the execution of 154 global contracts for the conservation of more than 43 thousand kilometers of the network national road, in addition to the deployment of nearly 2,000 officials and almost 1,300 machines throughout the country to face the effects of the rains and snowfalls. Added to this is the strategic redistribution of machinery to the highest risk areas to guarantee a timely response. In parallel, the General Directorate of Concessions instructed the 33 concession companies of routes between the regions of Coquimbo and Los Lagos to reinforce their preventive work and keep their emergency plans operational. Likewise, the Superintendency of Sanitary Services ordered special measures for the 53 sanitary companies in the country with the objective of safeguarding the continuity of services and the operation of more than 32 thousand kilometers of sewage networks during the winter season.

Las obras contemplan la limpieza y retiro de sedimentos de los siete decantadores ubicados al interior del Parque Padre Hurtado, en un tramo de 605 metros lineales entre el Puente Emos y el puente Florencio Barrios. Estas intervenciones permitirán restituir la capacidad de retención de los decantadores y asegurar el libre escurrimiento de las aguas, disminuyendo significativamente el riesgo de desbordes.Asimismo, el contrato incorpora la disponibilidad permanente de una excavadora en el sector de la alcantarilla de avenida Príncipe de Gales, la que podrá ser activada de inmediato frente a eventuales emergencias meteorológicas.Durante la visita, el Presidente Kast destacó que el Gobierno ha privilegiado la anticipación como eje central de su estrategia para enfrentar el invierno, fortaleciendo la coordinación entre los distintos organismos del Estado y desplegando recursos antes de la ocurrencia de las emergencias.
