Damascus, July 14 (SANA)Syria on Tuesday strongly condemned the Iranian attack on two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a violation of international law and the principle of freedom of navigation.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the attack on the two UAE tankers in Omani territorial waters contributes to regional tensions and undermines regional and international security and stability.

The ministry reiterated Syria’s solidarity with the United Arab Emirates in the face of any attack affecting its sovereignty, security or stability, and stressed the importance of respecting international law and ensuring the safety and security of maritime navigation.

UAE authorities said two tankers were struck by Iranian cruise missiles while transiting the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters. The attack killed one Indian crew member and injured eight others.F.J./ABD
