Vicepresidenta Raquel Peña y secretario de Salud de Estados Unidos se reunirán este martes en Washington
Santo Domingo.- The Vice President of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Peña, will represent the country in a high-level meeting that will be held this Tuesday in Washington, United States, with the Secretary of Health and Human Services of the North American nation, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., with the purpose of exchanging experiences and addressing government strategies aimed at strengthening health systems and preventing diseases.
The meeting is part of the permanent work agenda of the Health Cabinet, chaired by Peña, and reaffirms the commitment of the Dominican Government to continue strengthening public policies in health matters through cooperation with international partners.
The meeting, in which the United States ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah Campos, and the Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance, Víctor Atallah, will also participate, is part of the efforts promoted by President Luis Abinader's administration to consolidate a health system that is increasingly accessible, efficient and focused on prevention, promoting initiatives that contribute to improving the quality of life of the population and strengthening the capacity to respond to the main challenges in public health.
One of the central topics of the meeting will be the “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) initiative, promoted by the US administration to address the increase in chronic diseases through policies focused on prevention, the promotion of healthy lifestyles and family access to information that favors better decisions for their health care.
Likewise, both delegations will exchange experiences on programs aimed at reducing risk factors associated with non-communicable diseases, strengthening primary care, promoting health education and developing strategies that allow improving the health indicators of their respective populations.
Raquel Peña will leave for Washington this Tuesday the 14th in the morning from the San Isidro Air Base. The visit also represents an opportunity to strengthen the ties of cooperation between the Dominican Republic and the United States in areas of common interest related to public health, innovation in health policies, and the exchange of technical knowledge that contributes to the development of more sustainable health systems.
