Indrhi continúa fortalecimiento de las Juntas de Regantes con programa nacional de capacitación y asistencia técnica en riego
Santo Domingo.-The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi) continues to strengthen the Irrigation Boards through a national training and technical assistance program in irrigation, presented during a meeting with presidents and managers of these organizations, with the objective of optimizing water management and improving irrigation efficiency in agricultural plots.
Representing the executive director of the entity, Olmedo Caba Romano, the meeting was headed by the director of Operations and Conservation of Irrigation Systems of the Indrhi, Juan Nova, together with the president of the National Council of Irrigators (CNR), Rafael García; the director of the Water Unit of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), Silvio Carrasco, and the person in charge of the Irrigation User Service department of the Indrhi, Juanito Montilla.
During the day, the training program that will be executed jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture and the PUCMM was presented, whose purpose is to provide specialized technical assistance in irrigation within the area of influence of the Irrigation Boards, in order to increase efficiency in the use of water resources directly in agricultural plots.
The authorities explained that, although in recent years important advances have been made in the modernization and operation of irrigation systems and in the distribution of water, it is necessary to strengthen the management of water resources at the parcel level, where there is ample potential to optimize its use through the application of good agricultural practices and efficient irrigation technologies.
The program responds to the challenge represented by the constantly increasing demand for water due to population growth, the expansion of agricultural production and other strategic uses. In this context, it was highlighted that the supply of water for human consumption constitutes a national priority, which is why it is essential to optimize the use of water for irrigation, guaranteeing the sustainability of irrigation systems and the country's food security.
As part of the institutional strengthening program, the holding of meetings with agricultural leaders was also announced, spaces for the exchange of experiences, the analysis of the main challenges of the sector and the identification of joint solutions to improve water management in agriculture.
Likewise, it was reported that representatives of Irrigation Boards and technical staff will participate in international exchange missions in Chile, Argentina, Mexico and Spain, with the purpose of directly learning about successful models of administration, distribution and efficient use of water for irrigation.
The first group plans to travel to Spain during the month of September, where they will observe experiences that can later be adapted and replicated in the Dominican Republic.
During the meeting, the Indrhi also asked each Board of Irrigators to identify and present three priority needs in their demarcation. With this information, the institution will develop a project program aimed at addressing the most urgent problems of each irrigation system, allowing for more efficient planning of investments and a response in line with the real needs of producers.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ysura Irrigation Boards, San José de Ocoa, Pedernales, San Rafael del Yuma, Limón del Yuna, Río Yuna, Constanza, Presa de Rincón, Río Camú, Mijo, Nizao-Valdesia and Aglipo I and II, among other irrigation user organizations in the country, also participated in the meeting, which took place in the Indrhi Conference Hall.
It should be noted that, as part of the permanent support actions for the Irrigation Boards, the Indrhi recently made available a fleet of heavy equipment and specialized machinery for the maintenance and rehabilitation of canals, drains and irrigation infrastructure. This initiative will speed up the cleaning and conservation tasks of the systems, improve the distribution of water and guarantee a more efficient service for thousands of agricultural producers throughout the national territory.

Las autoridades explicaron que, aunque en los últimos años se han logrado importantes avances en lamodernización y operaciónde los sistemas de riego y en la distribución del agua, es necesario fortalecer elmanejo del recurso hídricoa nivel parcelario, donde existe un amplio potencial para optimizar su aprovechamiento mediante la aplicación de buenasprácticas agrícolas y tecnologías de riego eficientes. El programa responde al desafío que representa la creciente demanda de agua de manera constante debido alcrecimiento poblacional, la expansión de la producción agrícolay otros usos estratégicos. En ese contexto, se destacó que el abastecimiento de agua para consumo humano constituye una prioridad nacional, por lo que resulta indispensableoptimizar el uso del aguadestinada al riego, garantizando la sostenibilidad de los sistemas de irrigación y laseguridad alimentaria del país. Como parte del programa de fortalecimiento institucional, también se anunció la realización de encuentros conlíderes agropecuarios, espacios destinados al intercambio de experiencias, el análisis de los principales retos del sector y la identificación desoluciones conjuntaspara mejorar la gestión del agua en la agricultura. Asimismo, se informó que representantes de Juntas de Regantes y personal técnico participarán en misiones de intercambio internacional enChile, Argentina, México y España, con el propósito de conocer directamente modelos exitosos deadministración, distribución y uso eficientedel agua para riego. El primer grupo tiene previsto viajar a España durante el mes de septiembre, donde observará experiencias que posteriormente podrán seradaptadas y replicadas en la República Dominicana. Durante el encuentro, el Indrhi también solicitó a cada Junta de Regantes identificar y presentar tresnecesidades prioritariasde su demarcación. Con esta información, la institución elaborará un programa de proyectos orientado a atender lasproblemáticas más urgentesde cada sistema de riego, permitiendo una planificaciónmás eficientede las inversiones y una respuesta acorde con las necesidades reales de los productores. En el encuentro, que se desarrolló en el Salón de Conferencias del Indrhi, además participaron representantes del Ministerio de Agricultura, de las Juntas de Regantes Ysura, San José de Ocoa, Pedernales, San Rafael del Yuma, Limón del Yuna, Río Yuna, Constanza, Presa de Rincón, Río Camú, Mijo, Nizao-Valdesia y Aglipo I y II, entre otras organizaciones de usuarios de riego del país. Cabe destacar que, como parte de las acciones de apoyo permanente a las Juntas de Regantes, recientemente el Indrhi puso a su disposición una flotilla de equipos pesados y maquinarias especializadas destinadas almantenimiento y rehabilitación de canales,drenajes e infraestructurasde riego. Esta iniciativa permitirá agilizar las labores delimpieza y conservaciónde los sistemas, mejorar la distribución del agua y garantizar un serviciomás eficientepara miles de productores agrícolas en todo el territorio nacional.
