INABIE mejora la calidad de vida de 13 estudiantes con cirugías oftalmológicas especializadas
Santo Domingo.– The National Institute for Student Welfare (INABIE) benefited 13 students from the public educational system who suffered from highly complex visual conditions with specialized and free surgeries, as part of its National Prevention Program in Visual Health and Eye Surgeries (Pronsavico).
With these new interventions, the number of students benefiting from this type of procedures during the current administration rises to 33, helping to correct conditions that affected their visual health and could limit their learning process and comprehensive development.
The surgeries were performed in coordination with the Christian Center for Medical Services Hospital Doctor Elías Santana (Los Americanos) and included correction of strabismus and drooping eyelid, corneal reinforcement, corneal procedures and placement of corneal devices, according to the diagnosis of each patient.
Prior to the surgical interventions, the patients were received along with their parents or guardians by the executive director of INABIE, Adolfo Pérez, who highlighted that this day reaffirms the institution's commitment to guarantee that no student is limited in their educational process due to visual health problems that can be prevented or corrected in a timely manner.
"We are working in favor of the health of the students in this administration. It is one of the priorities that we have defined, because we know that INABIE should not only offer breakfast or lunch. It has to go one step further and become a tool for transforming lives," said the official.
Likewise, he highlighted that the institution provides free access to specialized procedures that represent an opportunity to improve the school performance and well-being of students.
The beneficiary students come from Nagua, El Factor, Sánchez, Puerto Plata, San Rafael del Yuma, Miches, Mendoza, Los Alcarrizos and the National District.
The program covers 100% of the costs, so families do not incur any expenses. This includes five-day lodging for the student parent or guardian, preoperative tests, pediatric cardiovascular evaluations, diagnostic studies, surgery, and necessary postoperative medications.
Mother appreciates opportunity for her daughter
Carmen Teresa Tejeda, resident in Pantoja, Santo Domingo Oeste, and mother of Escarlet Sosa Tejeda, 11 years old, expressed her satisfaction and gratitude after her daughter benefited from one of these procedures, which, she stated, will contribute to improving her quality of life.
"I am very grateful, first to God and then to INABIE. I was surprised by how fast they work here. I was very happy when they called me to tell me that my girl had been selected," said Tejeda.
Pronsavico provides free vision care
The National Prevention Program in Visual Health and Ocular Surgeries (Pronsavico) constitutes one of the main health programs promoted by INABIE to guarantee the right of students to receive timely and specialized medical care.
Through this initiative, the institution develops visual evaluation sessions, delivers corrective lenses, and performs ophthalmological surgeries, eliminating barriers that may affect the teaching-learning process of thousands of children and adolescents in the public education system.
During the day, the executive director of INABIE was accompanied by Dr. Luis Lizardo, director of Health and Nutrition; Omar Brito, director of Student Services; Dr. Ana Zabala, in charge of Health; Santo Gervacio Sánchez, in charge of Participation and Student Services; Raisa Rincón, in charge of Student Support, and Dr. Claudia Thomas Pellerano, in charge of the Division of Visual Health.

Previo a las intervenciones quirúrgicas, los pacientesfueron recibidos junto a sus padreso tutores por el director ejecutivo del INABIE,Adolfo Pérez, quien destacó que esta jornada reafirma el compromiso de la institución de garantizar queningún estudiante vea limitado su proceso educativo por problemas de salud visual que puedan prevenirse o corregirse oportunamente. "Estamos trabajando a favor de la salud de los estudiantes en esta gestión. Es una de las prioridades que hemos definido, porque sabemos que el INABIE no solamente debe ofrecer desayuno o almuerzo. Tiene que ir un paso más allá y convertirse en una herramienta de transformación de vidas",expresó el funcionario. Asimismo, destacó que la institución brindaacceso gratuito a procedimientos especializadosque representan una oportunidad para mejorar el desempeño escolar y el bienestar de los estudiantes. Los estudiantes beneficiados proceden de Nagua, El Factor, Sánchez, Puerto Plata, San Rafael del Yuma, Miches, Mendoza, Los Alcarrizos y el Distrito Nacional. El programa cubre el100 % de los costos, por lo que las familias no incurren en ningún gasto. Esto incluye elhospedaje durante cinco díaspara el estudiante padre o tutor, analíticas preoperatorias, evaluaciones cardiovasculares pediátricas, estudios diagnósticos, la cirugía ylos medicamentos postoperatorios necesarios.
