Agricultura e IICA fortalecen cooperación para impulsar la mecanización y modernización del sector agropecuario
Santo Domingo.- With the purpose of expanding the incorporation of technologies in the Dominican countryside and strengthening the modernization of the agricultural sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) signed Addendum no. 02 to the MARD-IICA Technical Cooperation Agreement, with which the scope of the National Program for the Mechanization of Agricultural Production (Pronamec) will be expanded.
The Minister of Agriculture, Francisco Oliverio Espaillat, highlighted that this cooperation instrument consolidates the alliance between both institutions to continue promoting more efficient, innovative and competitive agriculture, through the use of technologies, precision agriculture and strengthening the technical capabilities of the sector.
The official explained that these actions are part of the strategy promoted by the government of President Luis Abinader to modernize the Dominican countryside, increase productivity and provide producers with access to tools and technologies that contribute to improving agricultural production.
“The signing of this alliance reaffirms our commitment to the modernization of the Dominican agricultural sector,” said Espaillat.
He also added that IICA's technical support will make it possible to expand the incorporation of new technologies, strengthen the training of producers and technicians, as well as develop institutional capacities to offer more efficient services and respond to the challenges faced by the agricultural sector.
For her part, the IICA representative in the Dominican Republic, Gabriela Quiroga Gilardoni, highlighted that the Dominican Republic has become a reference for other countries in the region due to the progress made in agriculture, especially in the implementation of initiatives aimed at mechanization, innovation and strengthening productivity.
Quiroga Gilardoni also valued the joint work carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and IICA to promote a more modern, sustainable and resilient agriculture, through the transfer of knowledge, the exchange of experiences and the incorporation of technologies adapted to the needs of the Dominican countryside.
The minister also highlighted that IICA's technical support will make it possible to strengthen the incorporation of technologies, precision agriculture, the training of producers and technicians, as well as the development of institutional capacities to offer increasingly efficient services to the agricultural sector.
The signing of this addendum will allow continuity to strategic projects focused on agricultural mechanization, technological innovation and strengthening the capacities of the agricultural sector, consolidating cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and IICA to continue promoting sustainable development and competitiveness of the Dominican countryside.

De su lado, la representante del IICA en la República Dominicana,Gabriela Quiroga Gilardoni, resaltó que la República Dominicana se ha convertido en un referente para otros países de la región por losavances alcanzados en materia de agricultura, especialmente en la implementación de iniciativas orientadas a lamecanización, la innovación y el fortalecimiento de la productividad. Quiroga Gilardoni valoró además el trabajo conjunto que mantienen el Ministerio de Agricultura y el IICA para promover una agriculturamás moderna, sostenible y resiliente, mediante la transferencia de conocimientos, el intercambio de experiencias y la incorporación detecnologías adaptadas a las necesidadesdel campo dominicano. El ministro también destacó que el apoyo técnico del IICA permitirá fortalecer la incorporación de tecnologías, laagricultura de precisión, la capacitación de productores y técnicos, así como el desarrollo de capacidades institucionales para ofrecerservicios cada vez más eficientesal sector agropecuario. La firma de esta adenda permitirá dar continuidad a proyectos estratégicos enfocados en la mecanización agrícola, la innovación tecnológica y el fortalecimiento de las capacidades del sector agropecuario, consolidando la cooperación entre el Ministerio de Agricultura y el IICA para seguir promoviendo eldesarrollo sostenible y la competitividaddel campo dominicano.
