Gobierno lanza Alerta MAFE en colaboración con Meta para reforzar la búsqueda de niños, niñas y adolescentes desaparecidos
The launch event was led by the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, accompanied by the First Lady of the Nation, Leticia Ocampos; the president of the Senate, Basilio Núñez; the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Alberto Martínez Simón; the Minister of Children and Adolescents, Walter Gutiérrez; the Minister of MITIC, Gustavo Villate, the Minister of the Interior, Enrique Riera, in addition to national authorities, representatives of Meta and relatives of María Fernanda Benítez, whose memory inspires this protection tool.
The new system will eliminate bureaucracies, reduce response times and immediately mobilize citizens.
Once the alert is activated by the National Police, people located within a 160-kilometer radius of the last place where the child or adolescent was seen will receive an automatic notification on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, with a photograph, physical description and relevant data to collaborate with the search.
A faster response to protect children
President Peña affirmed that the implementation of the MAFE Alert represents a significant advance in the protection of children and adolescents, by incorporating technology as a tool at the service of security and Paraguayan families.
He pointed out that the initiative arises from the MAFE Law, enacted in December 2025, and highlighted the articulated work between the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, the Judicial Branch, the National Police and Meta, which made it possible to convert a legal provision into an operating system capable of responding more quickly to the disappearance of a minor.
He recalled that the initiative arose after the case of María Fernanda Benítez, whose memory, he stated, must become a permanent commitment to strengthen the capabilities of the State and prevent similar situations from recurring.
Paraguay joins the international network of Alerts for missing children
The Minister of Children and Adolescents, Walter Gutiérrez, explained that the implementation of the MAFE Alert is the result of a coordination process between the institutions of the State and Meta, within the framework of Law No. 7453/2025, which also created the National Commission for the Search of Missing Persons (CONADE).
He indicated that Paraguay becomes the fifth country in Latin America to have this system and highlighted that the National Police has already been trained to activate alerts immediately when the disappearance of a child or adolescent is recorded.
For her part, Meta's Trust and Safety Director, Emily Vacher, highlighted that Paraguay is the fourth country in South America and the thirty-eighth worldwide to join the company's international alert program for missing children.
The representative of Meta valued the speed with which the country implemented this tool and highlighted the leadership of the Paraguayan Government to complete the project in a short term.
Finally, he recalled that this mechanism is inspired by the Amber Alert system, created in the United States after the disappearance of a girl, and expressed that the MAFE Alert constitutes a tribute to María Fernanda, with the purpose that her memory contributes to protecting the lives of other children and adolescents.
With the implementation of the MAFE Alert, the Government of Paraguay incorporates a new technological tool to strengthen public policies for the comprehensive protection of children, promoting a faster, coordinated and effective response to the disappearance of minors.

Finalmente, recordó que este mecanismo se inspira en el sistemaAmber Alert, creado en Estados Unidos tras la desaparición de una niña, y expresó que laAlerta MAFEconstituye un homenaje aMaría Fernanda, con el propósito de que su memoria contribuya a proteger la vida de otros niños y adolescentes. Con la implementación de laAlerta MAFE, el Gobierno del Paraguay incorpora una nueva herramienta tecnológica para fortalecer las políticas públicas de protección integral de la niñez, promoviendo una respuesta más rápida, coordinada y eficaz ante la desaparición de personas menores de edad.
