Arab Parliament chief congratulates newly elected Syrian People’s Assembly speaker
Cairo, July 13 (SANA)Arab Parliament President Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi on Monday congratulated Abdul Hamid al-Awak on his election as Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly, expressing confidence in the Assembly’s role in supporting Syria’s political transition and institutional development.
In a statement, Al Yamahi wished al-Awak success in carrying out his national responsibilities and meeting the aspirations of the Syrian people, while strengthening the legislative institution’s role in promoting stability and supporting development and reform.
He described the inauguration of the newPeople’s Assemblyas an important step in advancing Syria’s transitional process, completing the building of state institutions and supporting efforts to achieve security, stability and sustainable development.
Al Yamahi also expressed confidence that the coming period would see closer cooperation and coordination between theArab Parliamentand the Syrian People’s Assembly, including greater exchange of legislative expertise and efforts to strengthen joint Arab parliamentary action.
The Syrian People’s Assembly held its inaugural session on Sunday in the presence ofPresident Ahmad al-Sharaa, Higher Judicial Committee for Elections Chairman Mohammad al-Ahmad, the Assembly’s 206 members and several government ministers.
During the session, lawmakers took the constitutional oath and electedAbdul Hamid al-Awakas Speaker of the Assembly, Mustafa Moussa as First Deputy Speaker, Madonna Bishara as Second Deputy Speaker and Mueyed Habib as Secretary.
