Zona Metropolitana 2 conquista la final del histórico Campeonato Nacional de Atletismo Escolar Inefi 2026
San Francisco de Macorís.–Metropolitan Zone 2 took top honors in the Grand Final of the Inefi 2026 U14-U16 National School Athletics Championship, in a vibrant closing that brought together the best student talents in the country on the blue track of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in this Cibaeña city.
After a tour of five regional stages, the event concluded with a day full of emotion, effort and competitive spirit, in which the metropolitans 2 obtained 10 gold medals, 7 silver and 8 bronze, for which they accumulated 25 points.
Meanwhile, the Higuamore region was runner-up with 8 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals (23 points) and Cibao Norte, with 4 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals, occupied third place on the overall podium with 11 points.
The Metropolitan Zone 1 (4 gold and 2 bronze) was placed in fourth place, Cibao Sur (3-5-3) was fourth and the Southwest (2-5-9) settled for fifth position.
The U14-U16 National Championship was organized by the National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi), and included the 800 meter dash, shot put, long jump, 60 and 80 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash and hurdles, as well as javelin throwing. These disciplines tested the skills of the student-athletes, who showed a high level of preparation and commitment.
The executive director of Inefi, Alberto Rodríguez Mella, highlighted the positive impact of the tournament on Dominican youth, highlighting that it will influence many students to be motivated to practice and develop in one of the disciplines.
"This event demonstrates once again that school sports are a powerful platform to discover talents, form responsible citizens and promote a culture of discipline and improvement in the classrooms."

La Zona Metropolitana 1 (4 oro y 2 bronces) se ubicó en cuarto lugar, el Cibao Sur (3-5-3) fue cuarto y el Suroeste (2-5-9) se conformó con la quinta posición. El Campeonato Nacional U14-U16 fue organizado por el Instituto Nacional de Educación Física (Inefi), y en el mismo se incluyeron las pruebas de los 800 metros planos, impulso de bala, salto largo, 60 y 80 metros con vallas, 200 metros planos y con vallas, así como lanzamiento de jabalina. Estas disciplinas pusieron a prueba las destrezas de los estudiantes-atletas, quienes mostraron unalto nivel de preparación y compromiso. El director ejecutivo del Inefi,Alberto Rodríguez Mella, resaltó elimpacto positivo del torneo en la juventud dominicana,destacando que el mismo incidirá en que muchos estudiantes se motiven a practicar y desarrollarse en alguna de las disciplinas. “Este evento demuestra una vez más que el deporte escolar es una plataforma poderosa para descubrir talentos, formar ciudadanos responsables y fomentar una cultura de disciplina y superación desde las aulas". Agradeció al Inefi porconfiar a la Federación Dominicana de Atletismo la organización de este evento, lo que marcará un antes y un después con la gestión de Rodríguez Mella frente a ese organismo descentralizado.
