Presidente Abinader detalla cooperación con fuerza multinacional en Haití y avances en seguridad fronteriza
Santo Domingo.–President Luis Abinader reported that the Dominican Republic maintains logistical and humanitarian support participation in the mission of the multinational force deployed in Haiti, without direct involvement in anti-gang operations.
During an interview with the media, the head of state specified that the country's cooperation focuses on humanitarian medical assistance and the coordination of information with the international mission.
"We do not have direct participation. What we have is logistical participation. We have support participation, medical humanitarian aid. And we have coordination," said the president.
When asked if said coordination includes the exchange of intelligence, President Abinader confirmed that there is a permanent communication channel.
"Yes, there is coordination with that multinational force. If there is any situation, they inform us and we prepare," he indicated.
Strengthening the border and salary improvements for the military
Regarding the situation in the border area, the president highlighted the positive impact of the smart perimeter fence in reducing theft and smuggling.
Likewise, he highlighted the process of modernization and equipment of the Armed Forces, which now have armored vehicles and better weapons.
The president also referred to the salary increase applied to military personnel. He noted that salaries have tripled, going from 9,000 pesos to approximately 27,000 pesos.
He added that members of the Armed Forces assigned to the border receive additional compensation for their specialty.
"The Armed Forces are better equipped. We already have armor. Before we didn't have armor. We have much better weapons. The military's salary was increased three times. And those on the border are paid a specialty," he pointed out.
Relations with the Haitian Government
Regarding the bilateral relationship, President Abinader stated that it is currently not fluid due to the institutional crisis that Haiti is going through.
He explained that more than 70% of Port-au-Prince is under the control of armed gangs, which creates a precarious situation that limits direct communication.
"The relationship with the Haitian Government is not very fluid due to the conditions there. We coordinate with foreign forces and, when we have to do some coordination with the Government, we do it through the Foreign Ministry," he said.
The Dominican Government reiterated its commitment to regional stability, the defense of national sovereignty and support for international efforts to contribute to the pacification of Haiti.

El mandatario también se refirió alaumento salarialaplicado al personal militar. Señaló que los sueldos se han triplicado, al pasar de 9,000 pesos a aproximadamente27,000 pesos. Añadió que los miembros de las Fuerzas Armadas asignados a la frontera reciben unacompensación adicionalpor especialidad. “Las Fuerzas Armadas están mejor equipadas. Ya tenemos blindados. Antes no teníamos blindados. Tenemos un armamento mucho mejor. A los militares se les aumentó el sueldo tres veces. Y a los de la frontera se les paga una especialidad”,puntualizó. Relaciones con el Gobierno haitiano En cuanto a larelación bilateral, el presidente Abinader manifestó que actualmente no es fluida debido a lacrisis institucionalque atraviesa Haití. Explicó que más del 70 % de Puerto Príncipe se encuentra bajo el control de bandas armadas, lo que genera unasituación de precariedadque limita la comunicación directa. “La relación con el Gobierno haitiano no es muy fluida por las condiciones que hay allá. Coordinamos con las fuerzas extranjeras y, cuando hay que hacer alguna coordinación con el Gobierno, la hacemos a través de la Cancillería”,sostuvo. El Gobierno dominicano reiteró su compromiso con laestabilidad regional, la defensa de lasoberanía nacionaly el apoyo alos esfuerzos internacionalespara contribuir a la pacificación de Haití.
