President al-Sharaa: People’s Assembly marks new milestone in state-building
Damascus, July 12 (SANA)President Ahmad al-Sharaaaffirmed that the launch of thePeople’s Assemblymarks an important national milestone and a new step toward boosting consultation and responsibility while building state institutions founded on dialogue, competence, and the rule of law.
In a post on X on Sunday, President al-Sharaa congratulated the Assembly’s members on the start of their work, wishing them success in carrying out “this national responsibility” in service of the Syrian people and in support of Syria’s reconstruction and prosperity.
Earlier on Sunday, the People’s Assembly held its inaugural session in the presence of President al-Sharaa, theHigher Committee for People’s Assembly ElectionsChairman Mohammad al-Ahmad, the Assembly’s 206 members, and a number of ministers.
During the session, members took the constitutional oath and elected Abdul Hamid al-Awak as Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Mustafa Moussa as First Deputy Speaker, Madonna Bishara as Second Deputy Speaker, and Moayad Habib as Secretary of the Assembly.
