Damascus, July.12 (SANA)Speaker of theSyrian People’s AssemblyAbdul Hamid al-Awakon Sunday called on lawmakers to consolidate efforts to bolster the role of the legislative institution and overcome the long-standing stereotype that, he said, had been imposed on parliament by the defunct regime for more than six decades.

He stressed that close cooperation and facilitating the legislative process are essential to support government efforts in post-conflict recovery and service delivery.
On behalf of the Assembly members, al-Awak extended condolences to the families of the victims of the ferry accident in the Euphrates River in Deir Ezzor.
He also announced that the Assembly would begin drafting its internal rules of procedure through a dedicated drafting committee before submitting them to members for a vote.
The session was adjourned until Sunday, July 26, 2026, to allow the committee to conclude its work.
