UN welcomes inaugural session of Syria’s People’s Assembly
New York, July 12 (SANA)TheUnited Nationson Sunday welcomed theinaugural sessionof Syria’s newly formedPeople’s Assembly, describing it as an important milestone in the country’s political process.
Claudio Cordone, the UN Deputy Special Envoy forSyria, said the assembly would play a key role in adopting urgently needed legislation during what he described as a critical phase for the country.
“The Syrian People’s Assembly has a pivotal role to play in adopting urgently needed legislation during this sensitive period,” Cordone said in a post on X.

He added that the United Nations stood ready to support the assembly in carrying out its legislative and institutional responsibilities and would closely follow its work.
The People’s Assembly held its inaugural session earlier on Sunday in the presence of President Ahmadal-Sharaa, Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections Chairman Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, lawmakers and several cabinet ministers.kA.ABD
