Abdul Hamid al-Awak elected Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly
Damascus, July 12 (SANA)The members of the Syrian People’s Assembly elected MP Abdul Hamid Akil al-Awak as the Speaker of the council after he secured a majority of 99 votes during the parliamentary session.
Three members submitted their candidacies for the presidency of the Assembly: Abdul Hamid Akil al-Awak, Moayad Hayel al-Qablawi, and Mohammad Ramez Koraj.
The newly elected Speaker,Abdul Hamid al-Awak, PhD. Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly, born in 1966.
Bachelor’s degree in Law from theUniversity of Aleppo(1990).
Master’s degree in Administrative Law from the Islamic University in Lebanon (2009).
PhD in Constitutional Law from Beirut Arab University.
Director of Legal Affairs at the Tigris and Khabur Basin Directorate between 1993 and 1998.
Member of the constitutional declaration drafting committee.
Assistant Professor at Mardin Artuklu University since 2016.
Consultant at the “Stabilization Support Unit”.
Lecturer at the Faculty of Law,al-Furat University.
Served as a judge with the rank of consultant in theSyrian Ministry of Justicefor ten years.
The inaugural session was attended by 206 members, with no absences recorded for the opening parliamentary meeting.
The proceedings of the first session of thePeople’s Assemblylaunched on Sunday in the presence ofPresident Ahmad al-Sharaa, the Chairman of the Higher Judicial Committee for Elections Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, and a number of government ministers.
