Syria’s People’s Assembly elects Mustafa Moussa, Madonna Bishara as deputy speakers
Damascus, July 12 (SANA)Members of theSyrian People’s Assemblyelected Mustafa Moussa as first deputy speaker and Madonna Bishara as second deputy speaker on Sunday, the Assembly said.
Moussa received 122 votes, while Bishara received 67 votes, with a total of 10 candidates competing for the two deputy speaker positions.
Mustafa Moussa is a representative fromIdlibprovince. Since the beginning of the revolution, he has worked in relief, humanitarian and political fields, serving as head of the General Shura Council in the Idlib. He was also appointed as a member of the preparatory committee for the Syrian National Dialogue Conference. He holds a degree in pharmacy from a Jordanian university.
Madonna Bishara is a Syrian academic and researcher, holding a PhD in civil engineering. She is the head of the Construction Engineering and Management Department at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Latakia University, with internationally published research, and is an active civil society activist.
Earlier today, the People’s Assembly held its first session in the presence of PresidentAhmad al-Sharaa, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Assembly Elections Mohammed al-Ahmad, 206 assembly members, and a number of ministers. Members took the oath of office and elected Abdul Hamid al-Awak as speaker of the Assembly.
