Ankara, July 12 (SANA)Türkiye extended its condolences to Syria on Sunday following the deadly ferry accident in the Euphrates River inDeir Ezzor.

In a statement carried by Anadolu Agency, theTurkishForeign Ministry said it was deeply saddened by the loss of life in the accident.

“We pray for mercy upon those who lost their lives and extend our condolences to their families and to the Syrian people,” the ministry said.

The statement added that Türkiye, which is supporting ongoing search and rescue operations, will continue to stand by Syria and its people during this period.

Earlier on Sunday, the Syrian Civil Defense said two children died and 15 civilians were rescued after a ferry carrying more than 35 people, including women and children, sank in the Euphrates River in Deir Ezzor.
