President al-Sharaa urges People’s Assembly to uphold dialogue and responsibility
Damascus, July 12 (SANA)President Ahmadal-Sharaaon Sunday called on members of Syria’s newly inauguratedPeople’s Assemblyto make the legislature a model of responsibility, competence and institutional governance, urging them to promote dialogue, uphold the rule of law and help shape a modern Syria.
Addressing the assembly during itsinaugural session, President al-Sharaa said humanity had long sought the best ways to govern public affairs, stressing that mutual acceptance and consensus were essential to overcoming differences.
“Since the dawn of humanity, people have sought the best way to manage their affairs. Mutual acceptance and consensus are the path to overcoming differences,” the president said.
President al-Sharaa described the formation of the new assembly as part of a broader national effort to rebuild the country following years of war.
“Syria is writing a glorious chapter of its history that reflects the heroism of its people. We now bear the responsibility of building both the nation and its citizens, and of placing responsibility above all else,” he said.
The president said members of the assembly shared responsibility for strengthening state institutions and serving the public interest.
“We all share the responsibility of building our nation, and today’s People’s Assembly stands as a forum for truth and justice,” he said.
President al-Sharaa urged lawmakers to uphold high standards in carrying out their duties.
“I urge you to make this assembly a model of responsibility and competence, and to help foster a culture of dialogue, the rule of law and respect for institutions,” he said.
Concluding his address, the president called on Syrians to work together toward the country’s future.
“Today, Syria is writing a new chapter in its history—one that reflects its civilization, values and heritage. Together, let us build the history of a modern Syria,” he said.
The People’s Assembly convened itsinaugural sessionearlier on Sunday after members took the constitutional oath. During the session, lawmakers are expected to elect the assembly’s speaker, two deputy speakers and a secretary by secret ballot. The assembly is also required to adopt its internal rules of procedure within one month of its first sitting.kA.ABD
