Syrian rescue team returns home, ends Venezuela humanitarian mission
Damascus, July 11 (SAAN)Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, received the Syrian rescue team returning fromVenezuelaat Damascus International Airport on Saturday.
The team had participated in a humanitarian mission to respond to the aftermath of the twoearthquakesthat struck Venezuela.
“We welcome the heroes of the Syrian search and rescue team to Damascus after they completed their humanitarian mission in Venezuela with high efficiency, a humanitarian spirit, and national responsibility.” al-Saleh told SANA.
“We transformed the years of pain we had endured into solidarity, and today we seek to share the experience we learned during those years with others,” the Minister affirmed.
He out that the Syrian rescue team’s participation in the earthquake response mission in Venezuela underscores the need to change “the approach we faced in 2023, when we were left alone to struggle to improve our situation.”
Al-Saleh emphasized that the team proved that humanitarian work is a mission that transcends borders, and presented an honorable model of professionalism, discipline, and dedication.
He praised staff pf the team as “excellent ambassadors for Syria and its people.
For his part, Saad Baroud, Director of the Department of American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, affirmed during the team’s reception that Syria has, in just a few months, transformed from a recipient of aid to a country capable of providing expertise and personnel to various parts of the world.
Baroud added that the presence of Syrian staff in Venezuela to assist in addressing the humanitarian disaster sends a message that Syria is building bridges with the world and establishing new relationships, even with distant countries.
The Syrian rescue team arrived in the Venezuelan capital on Sunday, June 29th, to participate in search and rescue operations and provide humanitarian relief to those affected by the two earthquakes, upon the directives of President Ahmad al-Sharaa and the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
