The President of the Republic of Burundi, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience, this Friday July 10, 2026, at the Ntare Rushatsi Palace, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergei Viktorovitch Lavrov, on a working visit to Burundi, at the head of a large delegation.
This meeting allowed the two personalities to reaffirm the solidity of the relations of friendship and cooperation between Burundi and the Russian Federation, as well as their desire to further strengthen this partnership, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, energy, health, education, infrastructure, transport, trade and technology transfer.
In his capacity as current President of the African Union, the Burundian Head of State, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye also shared the priorities of the continent and pleaded for fairer representation of Africa on the United Nations Security Council, both at the level of permanent and non-permanent seats.
The discussions also focused on the main challenges facing the continent, notably the security situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Sahel, as well as the fight against the Ebola epidemic. On this occasion, President Ndayishimiye reaffirmed his attachment to dialogue and the principle of African solutions to African problems.
The audience was also marked by the invitation addressed to the Burundian Head of State to participate in the third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled for Moscow on October 28 and 29, 2026.
His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi welcomed this invitation and will take part in this high-level meeting in his dual capacity as President of the Republic of Burundi and current President of the African Union.
In this capacity, he will co-chair the work of the Summit, thus illustrating the growing place that Burundi occupies on the African and international scenes.

Le Président de la République du Burundi, Son Excellence Evariste Ndayishimiye, a reçu en audience, ce vendredi 10 juillet 2026, au Palais Ntare Rushatsi, le Ministre des Affaires Etrangères de la Fédération de Russie, Monsieur Sergueï Viktorovitch Lavrov, en visite de travail au Burundi, à la tête d’une importante délégation. En sa qualité de Président en exercice de l’Union africaine, le Chef de l’Etat burundais, Son Excellence Evariste Ndayishimiye a également partagé les priorités du continent et plaidé pour une représentation plus juste de l’Afrique au Conseil de sécurité des Nations Unies, tant au niveau des sièges permanents que non permanents. Les discussions ont également porté sur les principaux défis auxquels le continent est confronté, notamment la situation sécuritaire dans l’Est de la République Démocratique du Congo et au Sahel, ainsi que la lutte contre l’épidémie d’Ebola. A cette occasion, le Président Ndayishimiye a réaffirmé son attachement au dialogue et au principe des solutions africaines aux problèmes africains. L’audience a également été marquée par l’invitation adressée au Chef de l’Etat burundais à participer au troisième Sommet Russie–Afrique, prévu à Moscou les 28 et 29 octobre 2026. Son Excellence Evariste Ndayishimiye, Président de la République du Burundi a favorablement accueilli cette invitation et prendra part à cette rencontre de haut niveau en sa double qualité de Président de la République du Burundi et de Président en exercice de l’Union africaine. A ce titre, il coprésidera les travaux du Sommet, illustrant ainsi la place grandissante qu’occupe le Burundi sur les scènes africaine et internationale.
