Minister O’Donovan launches nationwide public consultation on the Digital Networks Act
From:Department of Culture, Communications and Sport
The Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan, today launched a nationwide public consultation on the Digital Networks Act.
The Digital Networks Act (DNA) is a regulatory proposal that was published by the European Commission (Commission) on 20th January 2026. Its aim is to amend and simplify the regulatory framework for electronic communications, moving towards a single market and introducing new legislative requirements for electronic communications providers.
The final agreed text of the DNA will form a key plank in achieving the objectives set out in the National Digital and AI Strategy, Digital Ireland – Connecting our People, Securing our Future, published on February 18th 2026.
The consultation invites feedback from the public, stakeholders, and advocacy groups. The consultation will give members of the public and stakeholder organisations the opportunity to express their views on the Digital Networks Act. Anyone is welcome to contribute.
Minister Patrick O’Donovan said:
I encourage the sector and the wider public to engage with the consultation, and look forward to comments and feedback, as they will inform our position.
