U.S. rejects Iranian claims of control over Strait of Hormuz
Washington, July 10 (SANA)The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on Thursday dismissed Iranian media reports claimingTehranhas imposed control overthe Strait of Hormuz, saying the claims are false and that international shipping continues to move safely through the strategic waterway.In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said assertions by Iranian state media that vessels may transit the strait only along routes designated by Tehran are “false,” adding thatIrandoes not control the waterway.The command saidU.S.forces have helped facilitate the safe passage of more than 800 commercial vessels carrying nearly 380 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz since early May, describing it as a vital route for global trade.Earlier on Thursday, CENTCOM said it had carried out another round of strikes against Iran the previous evening, targeting 90 sites in what it described as an effort to further degrade Tehran’s ability to attack commercial shipping and civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz.
