Ministerio de Educación impulsa el liderazgo estudiantil con representación dominicana en Kenia y Estados Unidos
Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, received two delegations of students from the Educational Leadership Program (Plerd), who will represent the Dominican Republic in two important international training, leadership and debate scenarios: the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session, of the National Hispanic Institute, in the United States, and the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) 2026, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya.
During the meeting, the minister gave the national flag to both delegations as a symbol of the responsibility they will assume when representing the country abroad and urged them to continue being an example for the educational community.
"You are already champions and for us it is a true honor to be able to present you, representing what you mean to the country, the flag of the Dominican Republic. We are sure that, as you have shown so far, you will also carry it high during this experience and the country will thank you," said De Camps.
Likewise, he highlighted that the performance of the students constitutes a reference for the entire educational system.
“The work that you have been able to develop and the opportunities that you have intelligently taken advantage of are a positive example not only for your family and colleagues, but for the entire educational system, including for teachers and members of the institution,” he stated.
The head of the educational portfolio also valued Plerd's impact on the training of young people committed to their development.
Representing the students, Deborah Anabel Polanco del Orbe, from Regional 15 of Santo Domingo, highlighted the impact that this experience will have on the training of the participants.
This program is based more on how we are going to move, not so much in leadership, but in life. That is why I consider it so essential, because we will practically be building the leaders of tomorrow. Not only leaders, but people prepared to make decisions and find the correct way to solve problems,” he expressed.
One of the delegations will participate in the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session, an intensive program of the National Hispanic Institute that promotes civic leadership through the simulation of legislative processes and youth government, while the other will compete in the World Schools Debating Championships 2026, considered the most important school debate championship in the world and which will mark the first participation of the Dominican Republic in that international competition.
These initiatives are part of the Ministry of Education's strategy, through Plerd, to strengthen youth leadership, critical thinking and the international projection of Dominican student talent.

El titular de la cartera educativa también valoró el impacto de Plerd en laformación de jóvenescomprometidos con su desarrollo. En representación de los estudiantes,Deborah Anabel Polanco del Orbe, de la Regional 15 de Santo Domingo, resaltó el impacto que tendrá esta experiencia en la formación de los participantes. Este programa se basa más en cómo nosotros nos vamos a mover, no tanto en el liderazgo, sino en la vida. Por eso considero que es tan esencial, porque prácticamente estaremos construyendo a los líderes del mañana. No solamente líderes, sino personas preparadas para tomar decisiones y buscar la forma correcta de resolver los problemas”,expresó. Una de las delegaciones participará en el Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session, un programa intensivo del National Hispanic Institute que promueve elliderazgo cívicomediante la simulación deprocesos legislativos y de gobierno juvenil, mientras que la otra competirá en el World Schools Debating Championships 2026, considerado el campeonato escolar de debatemás importante del mundoy que marcará la primera participación de la República Dominicana en esa competencia internacional. Estas iniciativas forman parte de la estrategia delMinisterio de Educación, a través del Plerd para fortalecer elliderazgo juvenil, el pensamiento crítico y la proyección internacionaldel talento estudiantil dominicano.
