Comunidad dominicana en Europa se incorpora a la Gran Consulta Nacional por el Futuro de la Educación
Santo Domingo.-The Great National Consultation for the Future of Education took a decisive step towards the participation of the Dominican community abroad with the holding of a virtual forum that brought together Dominicans residing in seven countries in Europe, who began to contribute their ideas and proposals for the construction of a new comprehensive educational system for the Dominican Republic.
The event was organized by the Executive Commission for Educational Transformation and included the participation of representatives of Dominican communities in Spain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, countries selected for concentrating the largest number of Dominican citizens abroad. With this meeting, the scope of this participatory process was expanded, which has already covered the 31 provinces and the National District.
As in the meetings held in the country, participants answered questions aimed at identifying the main challenges and opportunities of Dominican education, the results of which will serve as a basis for the design of a more relevant educational system, articulated and adapted to the demands of the 21st century, as well as for the formulation of a new education law.
The forum was headed by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Rafael Santos Badía, who highlighted that the education of the future must respond to the changes driven by the scientific and technological revolution.
The official highlighted the importance of advances such as the internet, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, robotics and digital twins for the educational development of the Dominican Republic.
Likewise, he urged Dominicans residing abroad to preserve their culture, their traditions and their identity, while recognizing the valuable contribution they make to the economic and social development of the country.
Santos Badía made reference to the extensive presence of nationals in different European cities and countries, highlighting their cultural influence and the role they play as ambassadors of Dominican identity.
For his part, the Vice Minister of Planning and Development of the Ministry of Education (Minerd), Ayacx Mercedes, stated that educational transformation requires the participation of all Dominicans, regardless of where they reside.
“It is not possible to build the future without the participation of compatriots who live abroad.”
Mercedes recalled that President Luis Abinader has called on the country to double the size of the economy by the year 2036 and pointed out that education constitutes one of the pillars to achieve that goal.
“This goal is not limited to gross domestic product, but encompasses opportunities, rights, social inclusion and development,” he pointed out.
Celinés Toribio, vice minister of Foreign Affairs for Dominican Communities Abroad and executive director of the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (Index), also spoke during the meeting, highlighting the strategic role that the diaspora plays in national development.
He explained that the contribution of Dominicans abroad transcends sending remittances and includes investments, transfer of knowledge, strengthening of international networks and the permanent promotion of Dominican culture and identity.
Toribio thanked the support of ambassadors, consuls and diplomatic representatives who made the forum possible, as part of the actions to strengthen the participation of the diaspora in educational transformation.
"Dominicans abroad are much more than remittances; we are talent, commitment, identity and hope. With our work we contribute to the development of the country and, united, we are capable of building a better future for the Dominican Republic," he expressed.
The Great National Consultation for the Future of Education is a broad, participatory and representative dialogue process that seeks to collect the ideas, proposals and visions of citizens to build a comprehensive educational system, articulated and aligned with the challenges of the 21st century.
As part of the continuity of this participatory process, on July 14, a similar meeting is held with representatives of the Dominican communities residing in the countries of the American continent that concentrate the largest number of citizens of the Dominican Republic, with the purpose of incorporating their contributions and perspectives to the Grand National Consultation for the Future of Education.

El funcionario destacó laimportancia de avancescomo el internet, la computación en la nube, la inteligencia artificial, la robótica y los gemelos digitales para el desarrollo educativo de la República Dominicana. Asimismo, exhortó a los dominicanos y dominicanas residentes en el exterior a preservar sucultura, sus tradiciones y su identidad, al tiempo que reconoció el valioso aporte que realizan al desarrollo económico y social del país. Santos Badía hizo referencia a la amplia presencia de nacionales en distintas ciudades y países europeos, destacando suinfluencia culturaly el papel que desempeñan comoembajadores de la identidad dominicana. Por su parte, el viceministro de Planificación y Desarrollo del Ministerio de Educación (Minerd),Ayacx Mercedes, afirmó que la transformación educativa requiere la participación detodos los dominicanos, sin importar el lugar donde residan. “No es posible construir el futuro sin la participación de los compatriotas que viven fuera”. Mercedes recordó que elpresidente Luis Abinaderha convocado al país a duplicar el tamaño de la economía para el año2036y señaló que la educación constituye uno de los pilares para alcanzar ese objetivo. “Esta meta no se limita al producto interno bruto, sino que abarca oportunidades, derechos, inclusión social y desarrollo”,puntualizó. Durante el encuentro también intervinoCelinés Toribio, viceministra de Relaciones Exteriores para las Comunidades Dominicanas en el Exterior y directora ejecutiva del Instituto de Dominicanos y Dominicanas en el Exterior (Index), quien destacó el papel estratégico que desempeña la diáspora en el desarrollo nacional. Explicó que lacontribución de los dominicanos en el exteriortrasciende el envío de remesas e incluye inversiones, transferencia de conocimientos, fortalecimiento de redes internacionales y la promoción permanente de la cultura y la identidad dominicanas. Toribio agradeció el respaldo de embajadores, cónsules y representantes diplomáticos que hicieron posible la convocatoria al foro, como parte de las acciones para fortalecer laparticipación de la diásporaen la transformación educativa. “Los dominicanos en el exterior somos mucho más que remesas; somos talento, compromiso, identidad y esperanza. Con nuestro trabajo contribuimos al desarrollo del país y, unidos, somos capaces de construir un mejor futuro para la República Dominicana”,expresó.
