Syrian minister calls for promoting tolerance and cooperation at Islamic forum

Tashkent, July 10 (SANA)Syrian Minister of AwqafMohammed Abu al-Khair Shukricalled on Friday for closer cooperation among religious and academic institutions across the Islamic world and renewed efforts to promote the values of peace, tolerance and moderation.According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Awqaf, Shukri made the remarks while delivering Syria’s address at the First International Islamic Forum, held in Tashkent under the theme “Islamic Civilization: The Path of Peace, Tolerance and ENLIGHTENMENT.”The forum is organized by the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan in cooperation with theIslamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).Shukri said Islamic civilization’s historical legacy should be harnessed to serve societies and promote dialogue, coexistence and sustainable development.On the sidelines of the forum, the minister held a series of meetings with officials, religious scholars and researchers from participating countries to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise in areas of mutual interest.The forum, which runs from July 7 to July 11, has brought together about 300 participants, including ministers of religious affairs, grand muftis, scholars and researchers from across the Islamic world.
