Presidente Mulino visita a damnificados por inundaciones en Bocas del Toro y ordena la construcción de una casa para la familia de la menor fallecida
President José Raúl Mulino and the first lady of the Republic, Maricel Cohen de Mulino, visited the families who were affected and who are in the facilities of the CEBG Finca 4, one of the points enabled as a shelter after the rivers flooded due to the intense rains in the province and where the Government has arrived with the corresponding help.
At the site, President Mulino also ordered the construction of a new home for the family of the minor who died during the recent floods.
"I have given the order to build her family a new home with the intention of collaborating in the midst of so much pain. The ground has already been found and is being leveled to begin the work as soon as possible. I reiterate my deepest condolences to her grandfather, who raised her, and to her loved ones," said President Mulino.
There are 89 people staying in these shelters, members of 25 families. There the president spoke with those affected, who told what happened with the overflowing of tributaries and failures in aqueducts that left serious damage to their homes.
The president was accompanied by the Minister of Government, Dinoska Montalvo, who provided a report on the effects. In this scenario, the president gave instructions to the Minister of Housing, Jaime Jovené, to prepare a report on the damages, once the waters subside, in order to verify the immediate solutions that can be provided to the families.
Prior to this tour, President Mulino, during his speech at the handover ceremony of the Bocas Del Toro Sports City, referred to the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon in the country.
Mulino asked the different entities to review in advance the prevention actions against this type of natural events. As an example, he requested to establish in Bocas del Toro a headquarters of the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) that would serve—among other regular functions of the entity—as a collection center to urgently address situations such as the current floods.
He spoke of the negative impact of this phenomenon, whether due to intense and fluid rains or due to their scarcity, which affect agricultural production, plantations and often families with floods or landslides.
"According to the forecasts, things are not looking good. We are in what is classified as a strong El Niño, which is escalating to a more serious and more delicate position to serve the entire country," he explained.

En estos albergues hay alojadas 89 personas, miembros de 25 familias. Allí el mandatario conversó con los afectados, quienes contaron lo ocurrido con el desbordamiento de afluentes y fallas en acueductos que dejaron graves afectaciones en sus hogares. El mandatario estuvo acompañado de la ministra de Gobierno, Dinoska Montalvo, quien brindó un informe de las afectaciones. En este escenario, el mandatario dio instrucciones al ministro de Vivienda, Jaime Jovené, para levantar un informe de los daños, una vez bajen las aguas, con el fin de verificar las soluciones inmediatas que se puedan brindar a las familias. Previo a este recorrido, el presidente Mulino, durante su intervención en el acto de entrega de la Ciudad Deportiva de Bocas Del Toro, se refirió a los impactos del fenómeno de El Niño en el país. Mulino solicitó a las distintas entidades revisar por adelantado las acciones de prevención ante este tipo de hechos de la naturaleza. Como ejemplo, solicitó establecer en Bocas del Toro una sede del Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil (Sinaproc) que sirva —entre otras funciones regulares de la entidad— como un centro de acopio para atender con urgencia situaciones como las actuales inundaciones. Habló del impacto negativo de este fenómeno, ya sea por lluvias intensas y fluidas o por escasez de estas, que afectan la producción agrícola, plantaciones y muchas veces a las familias con inundaciones o deslizamientos. “De acuerdo con los pronósticos, la cosa no pinta bien. Estamos en lo que se cataloga El Niño fuerte, que va escalando a un posicionamiento más grave y más delicado para atender a todo el país”, explicó.
